The Shelley Glover Foundation (SGF) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization established by family and friends in 2005 following Shelley’s death in a United States Ski Team training accident. Shelley Glover was a gifted athlete, great friend, collaborative, humble, and pure joy to be around. Shelley lives in our hearts and minds today through the work of the Shelley Glover Foundation.

Shelley’s DREAM

A message from Shelley’s parents, Rich and Carmella Glover:

You may have come here because Shelley was your friend. You may somehow know of her and you want to know more. Our daughter Shelley was a member of the US Ski Team and died from injuries suffered from a training accident in May 2004. But she was more than just an athlete, much more. I can’t tell her story. It is better told by those who knew her and loved her; her friends, family, teammates and others who admired her accomplishments, her spirit, and her wonderful attitude about life.

A Gifted athlete.

Shelley was a gifted athlete, but, more than that, she was an inspiration. She chased her dream with an unwavering commitment and passion, and did it with humility and a profound compassion for others. We will no longer see her footsteps on that path. But, like so many others before her, her light still shines so that others can see the way.

So, this is really not just about Shelley’s story. It is also about those who will go on, those who will continue to inspire us all. It is about dreams and how they become real. It is about taking the tragic events in life and creating something beautiful in their wake.

There are, and will be, events and funds and committees making plans. That will also be a part of Shelley’s continuing story, but those things are not the sole purpose of this endeavor. This will be a profoundly personal space, ours and yours. We hope that people will find that this is a place to regain perspective, hope and commitment – a place to be inspired.

Shelley’s teammates sent us a gift shortly after her death. Along with the gift was a small plaque with this inscription:

“WE HONOR YOU SHELLEY G. for leaving a memorable impression on all of us just by being you. We will carry your dreams with us to the top. We will push our limits even further because you gave us inspiration, because that is what you would have done. Now it is in our hands. You forever will be in our hearts and minds. In your death, we are all left standing before a path that awaits our footsteps. This path will be formed and molded with each step we take. From this day forward, each step we take down that path, we will take for you.”
